An Encumbrance Certificate (EC) is a legal document that shows the financial or legal liabilities (if any) on a property, such as loans, mortgages, or ownership transfers. It ensures that the property has a clear title and is free from any encumbrances during the specified period. ECs are generally requested for 1 year, up to 50 years, or for records prior to 2004 (manual register).
